Chicken and egg

Who came first? The chicken or the egg?
There's no proper answer to this philosophical question.
Maybe they both came at the same time. Who knows ?

Where are they going ?

Media Freedom - pencil power !

Here's an other cartoon I drew for a cartoon contest, this time about media freedom.
May 3 has been declared World Press freedom day by the UN General Assembly in 1993 to honour the bravery of these cartoonists and journalists who dare to stand up and fight against oppression.

Pencil power !

Border

I recently participated in a cartoon competition on the theme: "Border".
I submitted these two cartoons to illustrate the theme.  I don't have much hope, but like some wise guy said, the important thing is to participate (who was this guy by the way? probably a loser ...).

The cartoons should normally speak for themselves but I'll paraphrase them anyway since there's still some blank space on this page and ... oh well, never mind, just look at them and make your own opinion!
I don't know when the results will be out. I'll keep you updated!

How intergalactic journeys can meet an abrupt end

I completely forgot the coffee cups and cigars

A promotional message from the crowds department

So you said you have to direct a  movie in which two hundred and fifty martians have to suddenly wake up and dance the Harlem Shake right ?
And you're wondering if you'll be able not only to find and hire that many extra terrestrials, but also if they'll be inclined to learn that ridiculous dance move instead of, let's say, annihilating the planet ?
Fortunately the crowds department is here to help you !
Using some computer graphics magic tricks, "they'" (the crowds department) will happily create hundred of martians of many different shapes (slim, fat, tall, short, with three eyes and pointy ears etc ...),  colors (green, dark green, light green, semi light green and ... ok you got it) and will make them dance the Harlem Shake or other dance moves !
The crowds department is here to help you.

A promotional message from the Animation Department

In computer graphics movies, animators are those artists who instill life into the lifeless virtual models. With their artistry, inanimate models start to magically budge, walk, stretch, run, speak, laugh or cry.
Good animators are always very much sought after by animation studios, so if you're interested, send your resume and your demo reel !

After rounds thoughts

During a cg (computer graphics) movie production, each artist working on a shot goes through 'rounds' where her or his work is evaluated and given notes to work on.
The degree of precision and meaningfulness of the note depends on many factors such as temperature, mood of the supervisor, color calibration of the monitor, moon cycle, imminence of the final movie deadline, last legislative election results, last supervisor's meal etc... It takes a lot of artistry to correctly interpret and address these surrealistic notes but at the end of the day the kafkaesque finally triumphs, without anyone really understanding what really happened.
As long as everyone is happy that's all that counts no ?

Emancipated yes, but not too much ok ?

The knitting group

At my workplace there was a joke about some people being part of a knitting group which was meeting everyday at 16:00 at the cafeteria to discuss important things.
Not sure what they would discuss, as the group was very secretive. The group is now dissolved.

Important topics are discussed during the knitting group meetings

Trustworthiness

Another cartoon done for a book published for a bootcamp.
This time "Trustworthiness" was the subject.

Holders of a PhD in advanced Mathematics will notice that she should have said:
"You were already married ? Four times ?"

Inspire each other to learn

Continuing with cartoons I drew for the bootcamp organised at my work and for which a book was published, today's subject is: "Inspire each other to learn".

Inspiration O  Inspiration !

The Frenchman

Ever since the Frenchman was created, the world has never been the same anymore.
Was the arrival of the Frenchman on Earth a boon or curse for humanity ? People have strong opinions and are deeply divided on the subject.
At Imprimatuur we don't have any opinion on the subject, as we consider that stuff just happens without necessarily a reason. The thing is there and we have to live with it. That's how pragmatic we are.
A while back we posted How Stuff Works: The Frenchman, which showed the technical details and internals of the Frenchman. However, we forgot to give the definition of this surrealistic species.

Here's the official definition of the Frenchman, so that to clarify once and for all what we're really talking about.

Frenchman [ˈfrɛntʃmən]: noun
  • If you see a beret, a baguette and a bottle of red wine popping out from a grocery bag coherently moving together, then the thing holding them together is a Frenchman.
Now things are clear

The Frenchman is just that

Consensus and Collaboration

Continuing with a series of cartoons I drew for a bootcamp book a while ago, here's another one dealing with consensus and collaboration - essential elements for successful teamwork !

They will go far !

Yet another cartoon done for a bootcamp book. This time the topic was: Managing Complexity
A tough one

Urgent vs Important

One more cartoon from the book that was published for a bootcamp organised at my work a while back.

Selflessness

Here's another cartoon I did for the lighting boot camp book to illustrate "selflessness".

Will they help their friend get out ? not sure

Presentation Skills II

Another cartoon I did for the bootcamp book for the section about presentation skills.
A key element is to be able to catch your audience attention - among other things.
A tie well tied is all you need

Presentation Skills I

Another cartoon I did for the bootcamp book for the chapter "presentation skills".
How to keep the audience's attention ?

 This will work, for sure

Self Discipline !

So ok, I know, I said that I would post new cartoons more regularly and what happened ? no cartoons. This is a blatant case of a self indiscipline !
Some time ago, a bootcamp was organised at my workplace. A book was then published on that occasion and I was asked if I could illustrate some concepts with cartoons, which I happily did .
Today's is taken from that book and is very conveniently named 'Self Discipline'.
Discipline starts by clearly defining who's the boss

Imposing discipline can imply taking liberties
with some fundamental laws of physics
